TELEVISION SERIES PROPOSAL (short version):

TITLE: “ROCK THE EARTH”

FORMAT/LENGTH: 30 Minute, documentary style, reality, HD video for HD television broadcast.

SERIES MISSION: “ROCK THE EARTH’s" mission is to entertain, inform and inspire the growing television audience interested in global environmental awareness television programming.

ONE LINE DESCRIPTION: “ROCK THE EARTH” is a documentary style television series on the leading-edge of the environmental revolution featuring the musicians on the front line of the green movement who are inspiring fans to become agents of change.

FULL PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The world is in a major state of flux environmentally and we need to do something as residents of Planet Earth. “ROCK THE EARTH,“ is our show, our way of exposing and protecting the environment and of inspiring people and businesses to see that NOW is the time to do act.

“ROCK THE EARTH“ is the environmental television series that is missing in today’s television programming. Aimed at both music fans and the environmentally concerned, each “ROCK THE EARTH“” show is an entertaining and informative 30 minutes. The beautifully shot, documentary format exposes the specific environmental concerns of the musical artists who are on the front lines of creating a green world. Featuring today’s most popular musicians and well-known musical icons, we let the musicians tell the story. In each episode of “ROCK THE EARTH“, we feature a leading music industry artist and eco-ist host, in their own words, as they reveal their own eco-beginnings.  They will update us on their current environmental concerns and share their music. This effort will generate awareness and inspire their fans to become agents of environmental change.

The show is based on the mission of the not-for-profit, national public interest environmental advocacy organization, “ “ROCK THE EARTH“ (www.rocktheearth.org). The organization works on behalf of members of the music industry through means of education, active litigation, and negotiation to bring positive and beneficial environmental consequences.

Artists who have partnered with Rock the Earth include Dave Matthews Band, Alanis Morissette, Guster, Barenaked Ladies, Bonnie Raitt, Jack Johnson, and the Indigo Girls. Rock the Earth would aid and recommend additional artists to feature, as well as act as a resource for content.

The series is designed to be aired as a regularly scheduled series on a prime time television destination such as the Sundance Channel, Discovery Planet Green, The Science Channel, E!, MTV, VH1, NBC Universal HD or HDNet. The “ROCK THE EARTH“ program would be most suited alongside other series dedicated entirely to the environment and would join a growing programming block of environmental shows.

In addition, “ROCK THE EARTH“ will further extend to the organization’s website and parent foundation, www.rocktheearth.org through a multi-platform launch via a portal that will allow viewers to see content online as well as on select portable devices (cell phones, iTunes, etc.) This initiative will seek to foster the growth of a robust online community by providing a unique forum for eco-minded consumers, companies and organizations to interact, to share ideas, and to create initiatives for change.

The issue of environmental sustainability is gaining tremendous traction in the marketplace. As consumers begin to weigh the environmental impact of the decisions they make in daily life, they will look for proven, credible sources of information to guide their decision-making. It is essential that consumers have that resource available on TV. “ROCK THE EARTH“ is that much needed destination that is needed on today’s television.

AUDIENCE: Broad-based appeal to music fans, environmentalists, arts and entertainment lovers, existing Rock the Earth constituents. All religions, cultures and economic backgrounds. Ages: 16 yrs. and up.

(3) SUGGESTED EPISODES DESCRIPTIONS:
Bonnie Raitt, California Redwoods - Bonnie is as known for her lifelong commitment to social activism as she is for her music. She has long been involved with the environmental movement, supporting forest, and water protection with her concerts since the mid-70s. She was a founding member of MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy), which produced the historic concerts, album and movie, NO NUKES, in1979. She has been especially active in the fight to preserve our Ancient Forests, performing numerous concerts, lobbying in Washington and being arrested twice in support of a change in forest policy. This show catches up Bonnie Raitt on tour. Bonnie talks about the influence of her Quake background on her activism, the personal significance of the California Redwoods, and her work with Reverb (a non-profit environmental organization that educates musicians and their fans to promote environmental sustainability) as they plan and execute a carbon neutral concert tour.

Dave Matthews and The Dave Matthews Band, Leading the Charge - Leading the charge, eco-celebs and tree huggers, the Dave Matthews Band, are the front-line on the environmental battle field in the music industry, from the yellow community bicycles the band helped scatter through out their home town of Charlottesville, VA to help promote eco-friendly traveling to their efforts to slow the Seattle building craze’s old growth forest destruction in the Pacific North West. This show follows the Dave Matthews Band as they take us from their early eco-awakenings to their current efforts to retrace any environmentally harmful footsteps they’ve taken and are now helping others do the same. We’ll profile their involvement in NativeEnergy, Clean Air-Cool Planet, BAMA Works Fund and Farm Aide as well how their music has helped the environment and changed the industry through green touring and festivals.

Jack Johnson, Producing Green Label Music and Protecting Native Resources in Hawaii - Against a background of songs about the environment written and performed by Jack Johnson, join Rock the Earth for this extreme green show Join as we blow bubbles and hang ten in Hawaii with the Hawaii-born musician, filmmaker, surfer, and cofounder of the environmental education not-for-profit Kokua Hawaii Foundation Jack Johnson. During this show we’ll join Jack at the Kokua Hawaii Foundation annual benefit where environmental organizations, eco-friendly businesses, musicians, artists, teachers and community leaders are brought together to promote environmental awareness in Hawaii. Later, while much of the music industry is still in the dark when it comes to being green, extreme green musician Jack Johnson shows off his own green label and his Brushfire Records office building where the entire building is eco-friendly. Solar roof panels, shredded old jeans as wall insulation, low-flow toilets and low-energy lighting that is rarely turned on thanks to plenty of windows and skylights. Brushfire takes being green seriously and prints their CD covers on recycled paper and are working to get their distributor, Universal, to use soy-based ink and biodegradable shrink wrap on all CD’s. All part of Jack’s ongoing efforts to help save the environment well into the future.
